MTN BUSHFIRE 2026 OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED: BRING YOUR FIRE TO THE JUNCTURE OF HUM

Counting Down to Africa’s Largest Multicultural Gathering

The 19th edition of MTN Bushfire Festival has been officially launched, setting the stage for a powerful return from 29–31 May 2026 at the iconic House On Fire in Malkerns Valley, Eswatini. The launch, held on 10 April 2026, unveiled this year’s theme, programme highlights, and immersive festival experiences, igniting anticipation for another unforgettable gathering and inviting the world to Bring Your Fire.

Proudly Swati, authentically African, and globally infused, MTN Bushfire stands tall as one of Africa’s largest multicultural gatherings, welcoming over 23,000 festivalgoers from more than 55 countries. For three transformative days, the festival celebrates unity in diversity, social inclusion, and creative expression in an atmosphere rooted in tolerance and shared humanity.

Festival Theme: Juncture of Hum

The 2026 theme ‘Juncture of Hum’ illustrates the powerful energy that emerges when individual voices come together at a point of transformation where rhythm, culture and purpose intersect.

At MTN Bushfire 2026, artists, audiences, activists and communities gather at this juncture to create collective meaning and inspire new possibilities through music, movement, dialogue and action.

In the spirit of Bring Your Fire, the Juncture of Hum reminds us that what we create together resonates far beyond the festival itself. The connections forged, the ideas sparked, and the impact shared ripple outward, contributing to a more inclusive, creative and sustainable future.

Fire with Impact: A Leading Sustainable Festival

‘Bring Your Fire’ is an open invitation to bring your energy, spirit, passion, and drive to make a tangible difference. MTN Bushfire’s sustainability initiatives inspire participatory action that drives meaningful socio-cultural, economic, and environmental change.

MTN Bushfire Festival continues to strengthen its position as Africa’s leading sustainable festival, deepening its economic and social impact in Eswatini, particularly in the Lobamba Lomdzala community. Independent studies by North-West University and UNESCO confirm a contribution of E121.2 million to the Eswatini economy, alongside more than E4.5 million invested in long-term beneficiaries:  Young Heroes and boMake Rural Projects since 2007.

Through its #GreenYourFire mandate, the festival continues to champion environmental sustainability. Festivalgoers actively participate by using the 3-bin waste system, recycling zones, and adopting Park n’ Ride and ride-sharing options, helping to reduce the festival’s environmental footprint.

This commitment to sustainability has earned MTN Bushfire the 2025 Temvelo Award in the Green Business category and recognition through a mini documentary on CNN’s Inside Africa.

A Multidisciplinary Line-Up

MTN Bushfire’s unique, eclectic, and purposeful approach to programming comes alive across six vibrant stages. This year’s multidisciplinary line-up promises a dynamic tapestry of music, arts, and creative expression, complemented by the CollaboNation Artist Reveal, highlighting cross-cultural collaborations that amplify the festival’s ethos of unity and innovation.

The Temple Lounge: A New Golden Sanctuary For MTN Bushfire 2026

MTN Bushfire 2026 introduces The Temple Lounge, an extension of the Golden Lounge set within the botanical gardens of Malandela’s. Designed as a sanctuary within the festival’s rhythm, it offers relaxed seating, a dedicated bar, curated DJ sets, and a silent disco experience, with enhanced comfort and ease.

Named in honor of Senator Mike “Umkanyakudze” Temple, the space reflects his lasting influence and vision, celebrating the role of shared moments and meaningful connection within the Bushfire experience.

Culinary Experiences: A Taste of Fire

The festival’s culinary experience is elevated into a more immersive and impactful offering in 2026, rooted in the theme “The Juncture of Hum”. Across vibrant food spaces, from the Global Food Village to the Amphitheatre Food Court to Express Eats, KidZone, the Barn Marketplace and the Golden Lounge, firestarters are invited to connect through shared tastes, cultures and stories.

A standout new development is the introduction of the Bushfire Food Passport, an interactive culinary journey encouraging firestarters to explore the full breadth of the festival’s food landscape. By collecting stamps across various food destinations, firestarters unlock rewards while engaging in a shared experience that celebrates connection, discovery and creativity.

The 2026 programme also deepens its commitment to local impact, with an expanded presence of Eswatini-based traders and continued support for initiatives such as the Livestock Value Chain Project, empowering farmers, chefs and emerging culinary talent while strengthening sustainable, homegrown food systems.

Sustainable Shopping in the Barn Marketplace

The Barn Marketplace continues to grow as a hub for sustainable, experiential shopping, championing Eswatini’s creative economy. Prioritizing Swazi MSMEs across craft, fashion, and design, the marketplace celebrates heritage, innovation, and storytelling, offering firestarters authentic, locally produced goods while driving economic empowerment.

Upgraded Lifestyle & Wellness Experience

MTN Bushfire 2026 elevates the festival experience with an enhanced lifestyle and wellness offering for firestarters. Supported by valued partners including Listerine, Perfect Choice, and Avis, the campsite environment will feature upgraded comfort, convenience, and well-being-focused activations, ensuring a more holistic and enjoyable festival journey.

Wear Your Fire: Merchandise for Impact

Festivalgoers can continue to #WEARYOURFIRE with MTN Bushfire merchandise. In partnership with boMake Rural Projects, merchandise sales support over 800 women artisans and their rural communities, funding initiatives in health, sanitation, education, and income generation. Since 2010, MTN Bushfire has contributed over E1 million to these efforts.

The Tap-Out campaign allows firestarters to donate remaining festival wristband funds in support of the initiative. To date, more than 20,000 people have benefited from boMake’s clean water projects, a life-changing impact that continues in 2026.

Arts & Youth Development

MTN Bushfire 2026 continues its commitment to nurturing the next generation of creatives through a dynamic ecosystem of youth engagement and industry development. Through the EU Schools Festival, young learners across Eswatini’s public schools participate in workshops, performances, and interactive outreach programmes, transforming classrooms into platforms for creative expression while supporting national arts education initiatives.

This commitment extends into professional development through the Africa Rising Music Conference (ARMC), where workshops, panels, and showcases connect emerging artists with industry leaders and international delegates, creating pathways to export-ready careers. At the center of this pipeline, the MTN Firefly Competition spotlights Eswatini’s rising stars, culminating in the Grand Finale on 24 April 2026, where the Top 10 contestants compete for festival performance slots, alongside a special performance by South African artist Blxckie. Tickets are available via the MoMo WhatsApp Marketplace.
